  1. Oh, demerits in college, how charming! Those folks are idiots, and I applaud you for managing to retain your mind, Sir!

  2. I was just wondering. What is with all of his absences and tardies? Back in my day, that would have been enough to get someone kicked out of school all by itself. I am wondering if absences/tardies were given 0 demerits because these were the times that he was required to be at meetings with the dean of men or other accountability? If so, that is an excessive amount of meetings which definitely detracted from his education. If not, why is he missing so much class?

    • It’s our understanding he was pulled out of class quite a bit. He was also the subject of late night/early morning meetings with the Dorm Supe or other member of the DOM’s office.

      Chris has hours of recordings.

  3. I wholeheartedly support the cause Chris is trying to champion; however, the two incidents that created the major demerits were obviously against the rules. Watching “Glee?” Contacting the accreditation agency and the Dept of Education? What was he thinking would happen? Seems he’s tilting at some windmills here. He should have followed the rules if he is demanding it from them. I didn’t like the rules either but I didn’t cry foul when I got zinged for something I knew was breaking them.

    • I think one point here is that the “rules” end up being more than a little arbitrary, especially in these cases.

I’ve not been there since the early 80′s and there was, obviously, no Internet and the like. Still, there did exist multiple standards and deviations that seemed only to apply to a select class of people. I wasn’t an overtly rebellious kind, but since I didn’t “fit the mold” I was targeted by the Hall Monitor (a true wonk if ever I’ve known one – he was also a Sophomore as was I) and the Dorm Super because of it. They and they alone recommended I be on “spiritual probation” when my APC and my PC didn’t see that as anything close to being “needed”.

I won’t say that Chris made all wise choices. I will say that the existence of multiple standards seems to fly in the face of the infamous “Do right until the stars fall” that the much revered and exalted Founder was so fond of saying.

    • But watching the TV show was not against the rules. Also, how are lyrics that speak truth worthy of demerits? He didn’t post the song, so how is writing the lyrics a sin worthy of punishment? They can’t prove that he was listening to it from the post, can they? That’s like giving someone demerits for reading Rick Warren.

I admit that calling media and the accreditation agency seems highly irrational when you’re being kicked out. But, I also used to be a legislative aide for a state representative. You wouldn’t believe the kind of things people call their state rep for. Can’t tell you how many people who were fired from their job called their state rep. When a person feels like his voice is not being heard or they feel their voice is lost amongst corporations and institutions bigger than he is, he will reach for anyone who will listen and help.

      • Oh, back to the music for a second…. Chris got demerits for posting lyrics to a CCM song, but BJU’s musicians take Sovereign Grace (considered CCM) songs and rewrite them for fundamental church use. Hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm……..
